About Us

The Emergency Shelter is a 24/7 operating facility that provides physical care and custody of children and youth removed from home for protective custody. Their primary duties and responsibilities include providing direct care and supervision to victims of abuse and neglect, assisting in shelter operations, providing developmentally age-appropriate activities for children and youth at the shelter, and providing transportation services for clients.

Our Services

The Emergency Shelter is designed to provide temporary placement of a child who is placed under DYS custody as a result of child abuse and/or neglect. The shelter’s primary function is to serve as a “home away.” Services provided include, but are not limited to:

Daily Client Care and Supervision

Staff members supervise daily activities of clients and maintain and enforce house rules in a firm and fair manner.

Homework and Tutoring Services

Guidance with completing school-related tasks.

Daily Hygiene

Routines and guidelines for personal hygiene (e.g. showering) are in place and enforced.

Transportation

Transportation is provided for in-house clients to and from school/appointments.

Meal Preparation and Distribution

Daily meals are prepared and distributed by staff members to in-house clients.

Basic Life Skills

Education and hands-on practices for basic and independent living skills (i.e. proper manners, responsibility, health and hygiene, safety protocols, etc.) are provided.
